What to strive for and become successful with myofunctional therapy

We’re not just working out your face and jaw muscles to look stronger. At your assessment appointment when we decide if myofunctional therapy is the right for you, you will determine what your goals will be and I will do everything in my power to get you there!

Whether it's breathing better, sleep quality improvement, less pain while eating or drinking, or reducing chances of orthodontic treatment relapse, your therapy sessions will be personalized to achieve success!

The goal is progress not perfection

  1. Uninterrupted nasal breathing

  2. Lips sealed or closed at rest, day and night

  3. Tongue resting up into the roof of the mouth / the palate

  4. Optimization of chewing and proper swallowing

Together in our 12-18 week therapy sessions we will strive to;

STOP a tongue thrust habit.

START breathing through your nose instead of your mouth.

QUIT thumb-sucking, nail-biting, lip/cheek-chewing or other poor habits.

OVERCOME unsightly manners of eating and drinking.

IMPROVE head-neck-body posture.

PREVENT or correct Long Face Syndrome.

ESTABLISH a harmonious oral environment.

BETTER DEAL with issues such as speech problems, sleep apnea, snoring, digestion, clenching/grinding habits and TMJ disorders.

To be clear, I am not treating anyone for jaw pain, sleep disordered breathing, dismissing orthodontic treatment, improved oral health, etc. Although myofunctional therapy has shown that there are improvements in these symptoms, I can not guarantee that results will eradicate them.

When is the best time to get started with Myofunctional Therapy?

Myofunctional therapy is suitable for everyone from age 6 and up, but treatment around the age of 7 or 8 is ideal. This is because oral habits are less ingrained at this stage and easier to change, encouraging normal dental growth.

But patients of all ages can benefit. Motivation and commitment are the keys to success!!!
