  • Who needs myofunctional therapy?
    Any person who: ● Has been told they have a reverse swallow or “tongue thrust” ● Snores ● Mouth breathes during the day or night ● Has an open mouth ● Has been diagnosed with sleep apnea or sleep-disordered breathing ● Has jaw/TMJ pain ● Has a tongue-tie ● Going for a frenectomy or tongue tie release ● Clenches and grinds their teeth ● Has large tonsils and adenoids, or has had them removed ● Has allergies or asthma You don’t need to have all of these problems to be a candidate for myofunctional therapy.   • What is myofunctional therapy?
    A series of exercises focused on restoring proper muscle function of the face, lips, tongue and jaw. There are multiple phases of therapy; intensive, habitual and maintenance.

  • What can I expect from my experience?
    During the assessment appointment, we will go over pain points and determine your wellness goals! Next you’ll be sent home with a treatment plan listing out the exercises for each week and how to properly integrate them into your life. Included in the program will also be a “myo essential tool kit” which are your equipment to hit the “facial gym” I will be available for contact at any time should you have questions.
  • How long is myofunctional therapy?
    Everyone’s treatment plan is different but we aim to get all goals accomplished by 12-20 weeks. If you are dedicated to the program and able to put time and effort into your wellness, the faster we can finish and one step closer to better breathing, sleep and less pain!
  • What age can you do myofunctional therapy?
    Myofunctional therapy is suitable for everyone from age 6 and up, but treatment around the age of 7 or 8 is ideal. This is because oral habits are less ingrained at this stage and easier to change, encouraging normal dental growth.
  • How do we meet for therapy?
    The first appointment known as the assessment phase must be completed in person! I need details, photos and data that are too difficult to obtain online. I am happy to come to you for a small travel fee of $25. If the program has been paid in full, I will waive the travel fee. For therapy sessions: in person or online sessions available over zoom
  • Is it covered by insurance?
    Insurance coverage is between the provider and you! I am happy to provide a superbill for you to investigate your plan. Payment plans are available to break barriers to afford treatment.
  • Is Myofunctional Therapy Combined With Other Treatment Options?
    Sometimes, yes! In fact, most of our patients who receive myofunctional therapy go through this treatment along with orthodontic treatments and physical therapy. I consider myself just a piece of the puzzle of your health and by working collaboratively with other healthcare professionals, we can optimize your well-being results.
